Jordan Schnitzer, the Portland real estate magnate and philanthropist, seems to see something in Erik Cole.
Cole served as a councilman on the Nashville-Davidson County Metro Council in Tennessee from 2003 to 2011. He later worked as the local government's first chief resilience officer under Nashville Mayor Megan Barry and, subsequently, Mayor David Briley after Barry resigned amid a scandal involving an affair with her former head of security, according to local media. Cole left Nashville for Arizona in 2018, the Tennessean newspaper reported at the time.
Now, he's heading up Schnitzer's latest foray into homelessness work, the so-called Revitalize Portland Coalition. This comes on top of the Bybee Lakes Hope Center for people experiencing homelessness that opened in 2020. Schnitzer owns the building and land. Schnitzer Properties is funding the Revitalize Portland Coalition, which recently filed for nonprofit status with the state.
